Canary Islands public workers demand €40 million career‑pay supplement

Six Canary Islands unions – CCOO, Co. bas, CSIF, Intersindical Canaria, Sepca and UGT – have united to press the regional government for the implementation of a career‑professional salary complement for about 12,000 public employees. The supplement, blocked for twenty years, is valued at roughly €40 million a year and would primarily benefit staff in groups 4 and 5, whose wages hover near the minimum.

The unions plan a first demonstration on 30 June outside the Presidency building in Las Palmas and a decisive meeting with the Directorate General of Public Function on 2 July. They warn that without concrete progress, further actions, including the possibility of a general strike, could follow. The regional budget for 2026 exceeds €9 billion, but no specific allocation has been made for the complement, which the unions say is a “comparative injustice” compared with other Spanish regions that already apply the measure.
