Canary Islands reports highlight transparency issues in government

Reports from the Canary Islands Court of Accounts have identified transparency failures among regional government officials. According to Pedro Pacheco, president of the Court, two ministers—Mariano Hernández Zapata (Ecological Transition and Energy) and Pablo Rodríguez (Public Works, Housing, and Mobility)—submitted their asset declarations past the required three-month deadline following several requests.

Additionally, the reports found that two ministers, Manuel Domínguez (Industry, Commerce, and Self-Employed) and Esther Monzón (Health), failed to record activities in their public agendas. This lack of transparency extends to 94 of the 158 high-ranking regional officials, including several vice-ministers and directors general. Pacheco noted that agendas are essential tools for controlling conflicts of interest, criticizing the lack of uniform criteria and the failure to disclose meeting participants or specific topics discussed.
