Canary Islands towns boost social aid for gender‑violence survivors and foreign regularisation

The Arrecife municipality on Lanzarote has operated a Psychological Support Service for women victims of gender‑based violence since June 2024. In its first two years the service assisted 101 women, about 90% of whom have minor children, offering individual and group therapy regardless of whether a complaint was filed. In the second year 76 women were served, with 45 continuing prior therapy and 37 new referrals, and 50 cases were closed.

Meanwhile, the Los Llanos de Aridane council, also in the Canary Islands, completed an extraordinary regularisation process for foreign residents. Over three months the social‑services team handled 323 applicants, primarily Venezuelan and Colombian, and performed 486 advisory actions and 143 administrative procedures to help them obtain legal status. The effort emphasized personalised assistance, legal advice and continuous case follow‑up.
