Canary Islands Transport Authority Advances Operator Registry and Secures Carbon‑Reduction Award

The Government of the Canary Islands has received the preparatory work for the future Registro de Operadores del Transporte Terrestre de Canarias. The project, funded through the EU NextGenerationEU recovery programme, migrated data from the island councils to a new digital platform and paves the way for the regulation that will govern the registry. Director General of Transport and Mobility María Fernández said the reception of the work “represents an important step to continue modernising the management of land transport in the Canary Islands.”

The Technical Service for Roads and Mobility of the Cabildo de Tenerife obtained the “Sello Reduzco” from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, recognising the reduction of its carbon footprint for managing more than 1,400 km of roads. Councillor of Roads Dámaso Arteaga noted the award “recognises the work we are doing to integrate sustainability into road management.” The service has set a plan to cut emissions by 84 % by 2029 through fleet renewal, renewable electricity contracts and other efficiency measures.
