Spain weather: extreme heat and incoming DANA storms
Spain is experiencing extreme weather conditions, characterized by intense heatwaves and incoming storm systems. The Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) has issued multiple warnings across various regions.
In the Valencian Community, a red alert for extreme heat has been activated, with temperatures potentially reaching 44 degrees Celsius. This follows a period where the first half of August was recorded as the warmest since at least 1950. Additionally, the interior of Castellón is under a yellow alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms, with accumulations of up to 20 mm per hour expected.
Other regions are also facing significant heat. Madrid is under a yellow alert with temperatures up to 39 degrees, while parts of Murcia, including Alhama de Murcia, are under an orange alert for heat reaching 40 degrees.
Meteorologists warn of a DANA (cut-off low) system that is expected to cross the Iberian Peninsula between Wednesday and Thursday. This system is predicted to bring unstable weather, including heavy rain, hail, and strong wind gusts to several autonomous communities, including Castilla y León, La Rioja, and the Pyrenees, before temperatures begin to drop.
