Canary Islands wines win 105 awards at Mondial des Vins Extrêmes

Wines from the Canary Islands achieved significant success at the 34th edition of the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes, held in Italy on August 25 and 26. The archipelago secured a total of 105 awards, representing 26% of all prizes granted during the competition. This total includes 42 grand gold medals, 57 gold medals, and 6 special prizes.

Among the accolades, the region received the World Extreme Wine Prize for having the highest number of participating wines, with a record-breaking entry of over 200 Canary wines. The Gran Premio CERVIM 2026, awarded to the wine with the highest absolute score, was given to Pico Cho Marcial Afrutado 2025, produced by SAT Viticultores Comarca de Güímar (DOP Valle de Güímar). The same entity also received the Special CERVIM 2026 Prize for the highest scoring company.

Narvay Quintero, the Counselor of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty, stated that the results reflect the talent and dedication of the islands' viticulturists, winemakers, and enologists. The success highlights the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between the sector and administrations to promote Canary wines, which are characterized by heroic viticulture involving difficult geographic conditions such as steep slopes and high altitudes.
