Canary singer Valeria Castro captivates Cambrils International Music Festival audience

Valeria Castro, a singer‑songwriter from La Palma in the Canary Islands, performed an intimate set at the 51st International Music Festival of Cambrils on Thursday. The concert took place in the Parque del Pinaret and featured a six‑musician band accompanying her as she sang songs such as “La soledad”, “Guerrera”, “Dentro” and “La raíz”, weaving themes of love, loss, memory and the importance of staying rooted. Castro dedicated a piece to her late grandmother and spoke about her connection to her native island, noting that she never leaves a stage without singing about La Palma.

In a separate interview she reflected on a personal summer night at Puerto Naos beach on La Palma, recalling how the site, closed after the 2021 Cumbre Vieja eruption, became a symbol of safety after loss. She described the experience as a moment of refuge and a reminder that beauty can coexist with grief, emphasizing the sea’s role in grounding her identity.

The performance and her reflections highlighted both her artistic expression and her deep ties to her island heritage.
