Canberra cyclist killed in car collision on Gungahlin Drive

A fatal collision between a car and a group of cyclists occurred on Gungahlin Drive in northern Canberra on Thursday morning, August 27. The crash, which took place near the intersection with Kosciuszko Avenue, resulted in the death of a 32-year-old woman.

Two other cyclists were transported to Canberra Hospital, with one reported to be in critical condition. ACT Road Policing described the scene as “beyond comprehension.” The driver involved in the incident is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

The victims were members of the Bilbys Triathlon Club. In response to the tragedy, Pedal Power ACT expressed deep condolences and called for a transport system that prioritizes human life through safer infrastructure and effective road management. The crash caused significant local disruption, requiring the closure of Gungahlin Drive for several hours.
