Canberra pilot to assist households with gas-to-electric transition

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has announced $8.2 million in funding for the ‘Go Electric’ project, a pilot program designed to help households transition from gas to electricity. Located in Banks and southern suburbs of Canberra, the initiative aims to assist up to 1,000 households in reducing energy bills and improving home efficiency.

Led by clean energy provider Electric Future, the project will test a digital platform serving as a ‘one-stop shop’ for home electrification. The program provides tailored rebates and practical support for installing rooftop solar, home batteries, efficient electric heating, heat-pump hot water systems, and induction cooking.

The commitment was negotiated by Independent Senator David Pocock as part of a broader plan to trial large-scale home electrification in one suburb across every Australian state and territory. The pilot is scheduled to run from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2028.
