Cancer Research UK highlights AI role in cancer discovery

Cancer Research UK (CRUK) has marked the 50th anniversary of its Scotland Institute in Glasgow by highlighting how artificial intelligence is transforming oncology research. Scientists are utilizing AI to analyze massive datasets, allowing them to identify hidden patterns within tumors.

Professor Owen Sansom, director of the CRUK Scotland Institute, stated that AI could accelerate the pace of medical discoveries, potentially leading to earlier diagnoses and more effective treatments. The institute, which employs approximately 300 researchers across 30 groups, aims to leverage the partnership between human ingenuity and AI to improve patient outcomes.

Founded in 1976 and tracing its origins back to 1912, the institute—formerly known as the Beatson Institute—serves as a national center of excellence for cancer discovery science.
