Cancer therapy advances face significant access challenges

Advances in tumor-specific therapies are transforming cancer treatment, allowing some patients to manage the disease as a chronic condition for years while maintaining quality of life. During the 6th edition of the Retratos do Câncer forum, organized by Estadão Blue Studio, experts discussed how innovations such as immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and specific antibodies are expanding treatment possibilities.

Despite these medical breakthroughs, experts highlighted that ensuring patient access to these innovations remains a primary challenge. Oncologists and industry leaders noted that while biological knowledge has allowed for more precise treatments—such as categorizing lung adenocarcinoma into various specific diseases—effective selection of these treatments requires molecular testing, which can create a gap between available medical capabilities and actual patient access.
