Extreme weather causes flooding and structural damage in Mexico, Nepal, and South America

Severe weather events, including heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and flooding, are impacting multiple regions across Mexico, Nepal, Colombia, and Ecuador.

In Mexico, the Yucatán Peninsula is facing significant instability due to a tropical wave and a trough. Quintana Roo is particularly affected, with heavy rainfall expected through early October. In Cancún, flooding has already caused road closures and an 86% absenteeism rate in basic education schools. Mexico City is also under alert for heavy rains and potential hail through October 5.

In Nepal, heavy precipitation caused a two-story government building in the Baglung district to collapse into the Daram River. While no immediate casualties were reported from the collapse, the region remains under threat from continuous extreme weather.

In Colombia, intense rains in Palmira have caused structural damage to commercial buildings and significant economic losses for local merchants. Meanwhile, in Ecuador, flooding in the Quinindé canton has affected 14 families and put local agricultural crops at risk.
