Cancún authorities implement large-scale cleaning and recycling initiatives

The Benito Juárez City Council in Cancún is implementing various waste management and environmental strategies. A massive cleaning brigade involving over 250 workers recently targeted the Prado Norte residential area, resulting in the removal of 2,676 tons of waste from public spaces.

In a separate environmental initiative, the municipal government’s 'Residuo Cero' (Zero Waste) program, managed by SIRESOL, has focused on promoting recycling and waste separation among local families. During 2026, the program held three sessions in various sectors, recovering over 6.8 tons of waste. Of this total, approximately 6,187 kilograms consisted of recyclable materials, including scrap metal, cardboard, paper, electronics, aluminum, glass, and PET. To encourage participation, the program allows families to exchange collected materials for basic grocery products.
