Cancún authorities sanction businesses and hotels for regulatory violations

Authorities in Cancún are conducting enforcement operations targeting local businesses and hotels to ensure compliance with municipal regulations.

The Municipal Fiscalization Directorate has sanctioned two establishments for operating outside of their permitted hours. Officials stated that these inspections are part of ongoing efforts by the Benito Juárez City Council to maintain commercial order and prevent businesses from operating outside established rules.

Separately, the Civil Protection Directorate is moving to sanction seven hotels for failing to complete the necessary procedures to certify anti-cyclonic shelters. Antonio Riveroll, director of Civil Protection for the municipality, noted that hotels failing to prove they have safe sites for guests and staff during hurricanes could face fines of up to 500 UMAs, approximately 57,000 pesos. While 108 out of 115 expected hotel shelters have been accredited, officials emphasized that the process requires more than just documentation to ensure readiness for the upcoming hurricane season.
