Cancún dump truck drivers protest use of unauthorized transport
Dump truck drivers from the Unión de Concesionarios de Transporte de Benito Juárez held a peaceful demonstration on Federal Highway 307 near Cancún to protest the use of unauthorized transport services.
Ismael Flores Cahuich, leader of the Sindicato de Volqueteros Cancún-CROC, stated that the group is demanding respect for their legal concessions. The protesters are accusing companies, specifically naming the Haven Riviera Cancún hotel, of hiring “pirate” trucks—vehicles with private, federal, or out-of-state plates that do not comply with local regulations.
The union argues that these practices bypass local laws and divert economic benefits away from established transporters in Quintana Roo who pay state taxes. The demonstration was described as an “act of presence” intended to encourage dialogue with the hotel management rather than to obstruct traffic.
