Cancún expands tourism infrastructure via airport and new bus routes

Cancún is strengthening its position as a major tourism hub through increased aviation connectivity and new ground transportation options. On August 23, 2026, the Cancún International Airport managed 388 scheduled flight operations, including 195 arrivals and 193 departures. The airport maintains direct links to major markets in North America, Latin America, and Europe, with service provided by airlines such as Aeroméxico, American Airlines, Delta, and Air France.

To complement air travel, the transport company ADO is launching a new shuttle service on August 28, 2026. This route will make four stops at various hotels in downtown Cancún to transport guests to the airport, with a return service planned for the future. The service aims to provide a more affordable alternative to taxis, with adult fares set at 180 pesos.

Despite these logistical developments, local hotel officials report that occupancy rates are currently 15% to 20% lower than in previous years, a trend attributed largely to a reduction in available airline seats. For the upcoming low season in September and October, occupancy is expected to reach approximately 40%.
