Cancún's new ring road project aims to cut peak traffic by up to 30%

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa supervised the start of construction on the 14.85‑km Libramiento Vial de Carga Cancún Sur, a logistics corridor funded with 3.071 billion pesos. The work, carried out by engineers from the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (SEDENA), will link Federal Highway 307 directly to the extended Avenida Huayacán, a bridge, a roundabout and a distributor road. It will also provide connections to the Tren Maya cargo station, the Cancún Financial and Technological District and the international airport.

The state estimates the new bypass will relieve 20‑30 percent of peak‑hour congestion, shortening travel times for thousands of daily commuters, workers and tourists. The project is slated for completion in 2027 and is promoted as a key element of Quintana Roo’s broader economic‑development strategy, improving cargo flow and supporting the region’s rapid growth.

The initiative is part of a series of infrastructure efforts aimed at modernising the state's transport network and enhancing its competitiveness as a major tourism and business hub.
