Quintana Roo boosts tourism promotion and infrastructure

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced a 20% increase in tourism promotion across 12 destinations in Quintana Roo to strengthen the region's international positioning. A key development includes a new direct flight connection between Milan, Italy, and Cozumel, scheduled to begin on December 24, 2026, which aims to enhance connectivity between Europe and the Mexican Caribbean.

In addition to air connectivity, the governor noted that the Kukulcán Boulevard road distributor is expected to be inaugurated between November and December. These infrastructure and promotional efforts coincide with the Cancún Travel Mart 2026, an event bringing together over 400 delegates from more than 20 countries to foster commercial alliances.

While promoting growth, federal authorities addressed challenges in the region. The Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, acknowledged a tourism contraction in Tulum caused by factors such as sargassum arrivals, rising rates, and loss of air connectivity, though she cautioned against the impact of alarmist social media content.
