Cancún reports high demand for psychological services due to anxiety and depression
In Cancún, psychological services account for 30% to 40% of the attention provided at municipal health units. Héctor González, director of the area in Benito Juárez, reported that the majority of patients are women aged 16 to 40, though children and adolescents are also being treated, often through school referrals.
Primary reasons for consultation include anxiety, depression, family conflicts, relationship issues, and body image disorders. The municipal health directorate currently employs four certified psychologists with postgraduate studies, supported by students performing preventive actions. Additionally, the Municipal Institute Against Addiction (IMCA) has noted that young people are seeking guidance not only for drug consumption but also for emotional well-being issues.
