Cancún restaurant destroyed by fire amid extortion suspicions

The Del Pacífico Zarandeado & Grill restaurant in Cancún was destroyed by a fire in the early hours of Saturday, October 24. The blaze was reported around 4:30 AM at the intersection of Huayacán Avenue and Ciricote Street in Supermanzana 313.

Firefighters, Civil Protection, and municipal police responded to the scene to extinguish the flames and perform cooling operations to prevent reignition. Reports indicate the fire caused significant damage, with some sources describing it as a total loss and others estimating approximately 85 percent destruction, affecting the kitchen, bar, and dining area.

While authorities have not officially confirmed the cause or issued a formal report, unofficial reports suggest the fire may be linked to 'derecho de piso' (extortion). The Huayacán Avenue area is a commercial and residential corridor with a history of criminal extortion and armed attacks against local businesses, particularly bars and restaurants.
