Spain and Mexico launch winter vaccination campaigns
Health authorities in Spain and Mexico have launched seasonal vaccination campaigns to combat influenza and COVID-19.
In Andalucía, Spain, the Servicio Andaluz de Salud has begun vaccinating individuals over 70 and those with chronic conditions. The campaign will expand on October 21 to include people aged 60 and older, essential workers, and those in correctional institutions.
In Mexico, various states are implementing winter immunization strategies. The Secretaría de Salud has initiated a campaign targeting over 1.1 million influenza doses and 368,000 COVID-19 doses. Specific regional efforts include Oaxaca, which aims for over 85% coverage, and Hidalgo, which is increasing its immunization goals for the season. In Tamaulipas, the campaign includes the administration of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine to pregnant women to protect newborns. The Mexican initiatives prioritize high-risk groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing medical conditions.
