Cancun cargo truck trapped in Kukulcan Boulevard sinkhole
A cargo truck became partially trapped after a sinkhole opened on Kukulcán Boulevard at kilometer 12.5 in the Cancun hotel zone on Friday morning. The vehicle, a closed-box truck traveling toward the Cancun International Airport, saw its front right tire sink into the pavement after the ground suddenly gave way.
Emergency services, including the Tourist Police and paramedics, responded to the scene. While paramedics assessed the situation, it was confirmed that there were no injuries, and the incident resulted only in material damage. A crane was deployed to extract the vehicle from the hole.
The incident caused significant traffic congestion on one of the city's primary tourist routes, particularly between Plaza La Isla and Plaza Kukulcán. This disruption compounded existing traffic delays in the area caused by ongoing construction related to the Nichupté Bridge road distributor.
