Candela electric hydrofoil removed from Stockholm service

The electric hydrofoil boat Nova, manufactured by Candela Technology, has been removed from service in the Stockholm archipelago due to recurring technical issues. The vessel was part of a pilot project launched on June 22, operating on the 14X line between Sollenkroka and Möja.

The project, managed by Region Stockholm, aimed to test high-efficiency energy storage and facilitate fossil-free maritime traffic. The setup included a specialized energy storage facility in Möjaström, designed to resemble a traditional boathouse to blend into the archipelago environment. While the technology previously showed a 94 percent reduction in emissions compared to conventional vessels during tests on the Ekerö-Stockholm City route, the recent operational problems have halted its current service.
