Armstrong council candidates forum highlights communication issues

During a municipal election all-candidates forum held at Centennial Theatre in Armstrong, local candidates faced intense scrutiny regarding past decisions and communication failures.

A pivotal moment occurred when an audience member asked incumbent councillors to identify a past decision they regretted or would approach differently. This shifted the focus from polished political talking points to the candidates' willingness to acknowledge flaws.

Incumbent Steven Drapala addressed the question by discussing the implementation of contentious traffic-calming delineators at two Rosedale Avenue intersections. While he defended the principles of the project, he admitted that the communication and implementation of the pilot project were ‘terrible’ in some respects. The delineators have become a major point of contention in the election, as members of the public have expressed concerns that large vehicles cannot safely navigate the corners.
