Canelinha bridge collapse injures two and disrupts water supply
A 12-meter-high bridge connecting the Galera and Papagaios neighborhoods to the center of Canelinha, Santa Catarina, collapsed on Friday, September 18. An elderly couple was traveling in a silver car when the structure gave way, causing the vehicle to fall.
Two people were injured in the incident and transported to the Canelinha Hospital Foundation. The collapse also ruptured a water pipeline, leading to a disruption in the municipal water supply and the suspension of classes in local schools.
Emergency responders from the Santa Catarina Military Fire Department were deployed to the scene. Authorities have advised residents to avoid the area due to the risk of further landslides and to facilitate rescue operations. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
