Canelo Alvarez adopts Usyk-style conditioning for Mbilli fight

Canelo Alvarez is preparing to face Christian Mbilli for the WBC super-middleweight title on October 31 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Following a loss to Terence Crawford and subsequent elbow surgery, the 36-year-old Alvarez is focusing on conditioning to combat Mbilli’s relentless pressure.

To improve his stamina, Alvarez has enlisted the conditioning specialists used by Oleksandr Usyk. Training is currently based in Gandia, Spain, where Alvarez is working with fitness experts to supplement the boxing instruction of head coach Eddy Reynoso. The goal is to ensure Alvarez can maintain offensive output through twelve rounds against the younger, high-volume challenger.

Terence Crawford has commented on the matchup, suggesting that Mbilli’s best chance for success is to adopt a rugged, high-volume approach to force a battle of attrition. While Crawford believes Alvarez maintains a skill advantage, he noted that Mbilli’s style is specifically suited to press the veteran fighter.
