Canelo Alvarez outlines retirement plans and upcoming fight
Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez has shared his plans for retirement, stating he intends to have three or four more fights before concluding his career. He expressed a desire for his final professional bout to take place in Mexico, specifically mentioning the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City as a potential venue following discussions with Televisa chairman Emilio Azcarraga.
Alvarez is scheduled to face WBC super-middleweight champion Christian Mbilli in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 31. This upcoming match follows Alvarez's loss of his undisputed crown to Terence Crawford in 2025.
Reflecting on his 68-fight career, the four-division world champion also identified James Kirkland as the hardest puncher he has ever faced, noting the impact of Kirkland's power during their 2015 encounter.
