Canelo Álvarez funds Mexican boxer Josué Zepeda for Sub‑19 Worlds

Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez responded to a social‑media plea from Mexican youth boxer Josué Zepeda, offering to cover the athlete’s travel and living costs for the Sub‑19 World Boxing Championships. Zepeda, from Playas de Rosarito, Baja California, said he needed roughly 80,000 Mexican pesos to attend the tournament in Budva, Montenegro, scheduled for 14–28 October 2026.

The champion confirmed that his team would contact Zepeda and provide the required funds, posting a comment that read, “Te van a contactar para que estés pendiente, cuenta con ellos y mucho éxito.” The support was publicly praised by singer Luis Ángel “El Flaco.” Zepeda’s résumé includes a bronze medal at the Boxam Joven y Junior tournament in Alicante, Spain, and a victory over Romanian Iulian Stefan Udroiu at the Future’s Cup in Thailand. With the promised financial backing, Zepeda can focus on preparation for the Sub‑19 Worlds, where he will compete in the 60 kg lightweight division representing Mexico.
