Canelo Álvarez to face Christian Mbilli in Riyadh for WBC title

Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez is set to face Christian Mbilli on October 31 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for the WBC super middleweight championship. Mbilli, the current champion, enters the bout as an undefeated fighter, while Álvarez seeks to reclaim his status in the division following a period of recovery and previous title losses.

Mbilli has expressed confidence in the matchup, suggesting that while Álvarez is a legend, his career is in decline compared to Mbilli’s upward trajectory. Conversely, Álvarez has confirmed his commitment to the Riyadh fight, dismissing speculation regarding his readiness or safety in the region.

Looking toward the end of his career, Álvarez has expressed a desire to hold his final professional bout in Mexico, specifically eyeing the Estadio Azteca. He has reportedly held discussions via Zoom with businessman Emilio Azcárraga to explore the feasibility of hosting a major event at the historic venue. Álvarez estimates he may have approximately four to five fights remaining before retirement.
