Canfranc Estación luxury hotel faces labor disputes

The Canfranc Estación, a luxury five-star hotel located in the Aragonese Pyrenees, has become a center of labor conflict. The Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) union has raised concerns regarding working conditions at the Royal Hideaway Hotel, which is managed by the Barceló Hotel Group.

Union representatives have reported issues including insufficient wages, excessive workloads, staff shortages, and problems related to occupational risk prevention, transportation, and employee accommodation.

The hotel is housed in the historic Canfranc International Station, a monumental building originally inaugurated in 1928. The site underwent a major restoration project involving over 30 million euros in public investment from the Government of Aragon and the Ministry of Development. Following its reopening in January 2023, the complex operates under a 69-year concession held by a company linked to the family-controlled Barceló Group.
