Cangas council faces proposal to cut urban IBI tax to 0.46% in 2027

The political formation Alternativa dos Veciños said it will table a motion to lower the urban property tax (IBI) in Cangas to 0.46% for 2027 and to set a stable rate of 0.50% for 2028. The proposal is presented as a cushion for residents to pay arrears arising from a recent cadastral change that affects about 3,500 homes. The group argues that new registrations and duplicated property values will increase municipal revenue, so the tax reduction will not strain the council’s finances.

In addition, Alternativa dos Veciños will ask the Cangas council to issue certificates confirming the lack of urban services—such as sanitation, water supply or street lighting—for parcels classified as urban but missing those utilities. The party also maintains its demand to suspend collection of cadastral‑change arrears, calling the decades‑long administrative delay unacceptable and urging the publication of affected area maps and technical lists.
