Canhas forest fire extinguished in Ponta do Sol

A forest fire in the Socorro area of the Canhas parish, located in Ponta do Sol, has been extinguished. Emergency services have moved into a recovery and surveillance phase to consolidate the extinction of the flames.

The operation involved 49 personnel, 15 vehicles, and aerial support. Responding agencies included firefighters, the PSP, GNR (Emergency Protection and Relief Unit), the Forest Police Corps, and the Municipal Civil Protection Service, all coordinated by the Regional Emergency Operations Center of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (CROS-RAM).

Rui Marques, the President of the Ponta do Sol Municipality, praised the local population for their proactivity and mutual aid during the initial stages of the fire. He also commended the professionalism and speed of the civil protection agents involved in the operation.
