Canicattì church vandalized with sacrilegious writings
The Cartello Sociale of Agrigento has issued a strong condemnation following a sacrilegious act of vandalism at the Santa Chiara church in Canicattì. Profane symbols and writings praising Satan were discovered on the church's perimeter wall.
The site is significant as it houses the relics of Blessed Rosario Angelo Livatino, a judge assassinated by the mafia for his incorruptibility. The group noted the disturbing timing of the incident, which coincided with the October 3 anniversary of Livatino's birth. The Cartello Sociale stated that the act is not merely a prank but an offense against a sacred place and the memory of a man who symbolizes justice and faith for the Agrigento community. They expressed solidarity with the local parish and the Archdiocese of Agrigento, calling for law enforcement to identify and prosecute those responsible.
