Canicattì monument to Judge Antonino Saetta vandalized

A monument dedicated to Judge Antonino Saetta in the ‘Giardino dei Giusti’ in Canicattì, Sicily, was vandalized overnight. The damage specifically targeted the leaf component of the memorial located within the municipal villa.

Mayor Vincenzo Corbo condemned the act as an “ignoble and targeted” gesture intended to send a message to the community. He stated that the city rejects mafia culture and announced that the damage would be repaired immediately. The incident occurred shortly before the start of the ‘Settimana della Legalità’ (Legality Week), an event held to honor victims of the mafia, including judges Rosario Livatino, Antonino Saetta, and Stefano Saetta.

Antonino Saetta was a prominent magistrate and former president of the Court of Assizes of Appeal in Palermo. He was assassinated by Cosa Nostra on September 25, 1988, alongside his son Stefano. Local police have conducted investigations at the site following the discovery of the vandalism by maintenance workers.
