Canine anxiety affects pet behavior and veterinary visits

Pet owners are facing increasing challenges with canine anxiety, specifically regarding veterinary visits and separation. Data indicates that 89% of pet owners believe their companions suffer from anxiety, with clinical environments often acting as a primary trigger for stress responses.

Separation anxiety is also a significant concern, affecting approximately 20-40% of dogs referred to animal behavior specialists according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. This issue has seen a surge as household routines shift back toward pre-pandemic schedules. Symptoms can include physical indicators like excessive panting, drooling, and gastrointestinal upset, as well as behavioral signs such as pacing and whining.

Experts suggest that anxiety can be managed through targeted behavioral strategies, such as mastering attention commands, implementing cooperative care techniques, and using desensitization rituals to prepare pets for medical handling.
