Cannabis grow operations result in sentences and asset seizures in the UK and New Zealand

In Carmarthenshire, Wales, Lucy Pugh allowed a professional‑grade cannabis farm to be set up in her shed and later dealt the product. Police discovered 14 plants and 800 g of harvested cannabis, valued at over £13,000. Pugh pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply and was sentenced to a six‑month suspended term, 100 hours of unpaid work and rehabilitation, with a Proceeds of Crime Act application to recover profits.

In Ashburton, New Zealand, Haylee Jayne McGrath converted two bedrooms of her home into grow rooms, cultivating more than 65 mature cannabis plants and producing cannabis butter. She pleaded guilty to multiple cannabis‑related offences and received nine months of home detention. Police are now pursuing civil action to seize her house under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009.
