CannaPortugal Global Cannabis Awards 2026 recognize Portuguese cannabis advancements

The CannaPortugal Global Cannabis Awards 2026 have recognized significant advancements in the cannabis and hemp industries in Portugal. The Polytechnic University of Portalegre, specifically through its Higher School of Biosciences of Elvas, was awarded for its pioneering higher education course in Cannabis sativa production and processing technologies. The program is noted for its practical approach, with 60% of its curriculum conducted directly in production greenhouses.

Additionally, Brazilian veterinarian Karla Pinto, based in Portugal, received an award for her research in cannabinoid veterinary medicine. Conducting her work at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), Pinto investigates the therapeutic use of cannabinoids for animal pain management and rehabilitation. The award recognizes her contributions to clinical practice and her specialization in the endocannabinoid system.

The awards will be presented on October 17 in São Miguel, Azores, during a transatlantic celebration dedicated to industrial hemp and medicinal cannabis.
