Cannes begins construction of flood retention basin at Carimaï
The Agglomération Cannes Lérins has launched the construction of a flood retention basin at the Carimaï site, located between Cannes and Le Cannet. This major infrastructure project aims to protect residents and local assets from flash floods by managing overflows from the Frayère valley.
The basin will have a capacity of 70,000 cubic meters, equivalent to approximately thirty Olympic-sized swimming pools. The structure will feature a dam 5.40 meters high and 150 meters long. This initiative is a direct response to the devastating floods of October 2015, which saw extreme rainfall in the region. The project involves the de-paving of 32,500 square meters of land to create a flood expansion zone, with completion scheduled for the end of 2028.
