Cannes boat collision leaves ten injured and one person missing
A collision between two pleasure boats in the Bay of Cannes, specifically near Mandelieu-la-Napoule, resulted in ten injuries and one person reported missing. The incident occurred late Sunday night around 10:45 PM involving a 10-to-12-meter Pardo yacht carrying 11 passengers and a smaller semi-rigid boat carrying 10 passengers. The impact caused all occupants of the smaller vessel to be thrown into the sea.
Emergency responders, including over 50 firefighters and various maritime and aerial units, conducted extensive search operations. While many victims were rescued and transported to hospitals in Cannes, Nice, Antibes, and Toulon, a 22-to-24-year-old man remained missing. Search efforts were temporarily suspended during the night and resumed in the morning, but authorities eventually announced that the search for the missing individual had been halted after yielding no results.
A judicial investigation has been opened by the Marseille maritime court to determine the cause of the collision. Investigators, including the Antibes coastal nautical brigade and the Mediterranean maritime gendarmerie, are examining whether navigation rules were followed and if negligence or the use of alcohol and drugs played a role in the accident.
