Canning Vale sinkhole swallows car after water main burst

A car fell into a sinkhole in Canning Vale, Perth, early Tuesday morning after a water main burst along The Bridgeway. The incident occurred around 4:00 am when a vehicle attempted to drive through flooding caused by the burst pipe.

The driver escaped the incident without injury. The sinkhole is reported to be more than one metre deep and several metres wide. Recovery efforts are expected to take over 20 hours as crews must first isolate a nearby gas line before the vehicle can be safely removed and the road repaired.

The Water Corporation stated that crews were on-site within 30 minutes to isolate the main. The burst has affected the water supply to approximately 10 nearby homes, and residents may experience discoloured water during the repair process. Traffic management is in place, and authorities advise drivers to avoid the area.
