The 179th Cannstatter Volksfest has officially commenced in Stuttgart, Germany. Recognized as the world's second-largest folk festival after Munich's Oktoberfest, the event is held at the Cannstatter Wasen.

Stuttgart Lord Mayor Frank Nopper opened the 17-day celebration by tapping the first barrel, presenting the first mug to Agriculture Minister Marion Gentges.
