Canoas, Brazil rolls out digital parking system and vehicle‑alert security program

The municipality of Canoas introduced a new paid rotating parking system that will increase the number of spaces in high‑traffic commercial areas and rely on digital payment, sensors and real‑time monitoring. The project, presented at a public hearing, is estimated to attract private investment of R$ 59.2 million over the concession term and will operate without direct municipal subsidies.

Separately, Canoas’ public safety department signed a partnership to implement the federal "Alerta Brasil" program, which links municipal CCTV cameras to the national police database. Using automatic license‑plate reading and artificial‑intelligence analysis, the system will instantly flag vehicles reported stolen, involved in crimes or with administrative restrictions, and alert municipal guard and police units for rapid response.
