Canoas leads Southern Brazil in Smart Cities program

Canoas has ranked first among cities in Southern Brazil selected for the ‘Cidades + Inteligentes’ (Smart Cities) program. This initiative, launched by the Ministry of Cities, aims to support municipalities in adopting urban digital transformation strategies.

The program provides specialized technical consultancy to help local governments develop plans focused on technology and innovation in public management. Key objectives include improving sustainability, service efficiency, digital inclusion, and quality of life. In Canoas, the consultancy is being conducted in partnership with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and the University of Caxias do Sul (UCS).

The project involves a transversal working group of municipal employees to ensure digital transformation is integrated across various administrative sectors rather than isolated within a single department. The current phase focuses on a diagnostic analysis of the municipality's reality, covering themes such as digital governance, smart mobility, climate change adaptation, and data security.
