Canola production expands in Paraguay and Canada amid biofuel demand

Canola production is seeing significant activity and expansion in both Paraguay and Canada. In Paraguay, the campaign has entered a decisive stage with over 70,000 hectares planted. Producers are anticipating favorable yields, with some high-performing lots potentially reaching 2,000 kilograms per hectare. This growth reflects a strategic move by farmers to diversify crop rotation and reduce dependence on a limited number of crops.

In Canada, farmers across the Prairies are preparing for a potentially massive harvest following a record 23.4 million acres planted earlier this season. While previous years were marked by drought and tariffs, current market conditions are bolstered by a growing biofuels industry. The Canadian Canola Growers' Association notes that approximately one-third of production is being crushed for biofuels, driven by demand in the United States and the European Union. Major investments, such as Imperial Oil’s renewable diesel refinery in Alberta, are further integrating canola into the energy sector.
