Canon and OPPO release new imaging-focused hardware

Developments in imaging technology are highlighting the distinction between dedicated compact cameras and high-end smartphone camera systems.

The Canon PowerShot V1 is positioned as a middle-ground device for content creators who require more manual control and better optical zoom than a smartphone provides, without the complexity of professional rigs. It features a 22.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, 4K recording capabilities, an articulating display, and an internal cooling fan to support extended video sessions.

In the smartphone sector, the OPPO Reno16 Series 5G utilizes a “Pocket Studio” ecosystem that integrates hardware, AI, and software to manage exposure and color in real time. The Reno16 Pro 5G includes a 200-megapixel primary camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and optical image stabilization, while the standard Reno16 5G uses a 50-megapixel main sensor. Both models feature multiple 50-megapixel sensors for telephoto, ultra-wide, and front-facing photography.
