Canon announces firmware updates for Cinema EOS C400, C80, and C50
Canon has announced free firmware updates for three of its Cinema EOS cameras: the EOS C400, EOS C80, and EOS C50. The updates, scheduled for release from December 2026, introduce new tools for broadcast and virtual production, including Multi-Matrix support for finer control over color and saturation to assist with multi-camera matching and LED volume workflows.
Professional workflow improvements include enhanced CV metadata for focus and zoom encoder data, Black Level adjustment for Canon Log 2 and Canon Log 3, and image stabilization support for lenses exceeding 1000mm. Additionally, audio output will now be available in Slow and Fast modes to assist sports crews.
The EOS C400 and EOS C80 will receive expanded autofocus support in Slow and Fast modes, covering additional frame rates between 60p and 120p, such as 72p, 75p, 90p, and 96p. On-screen displays will also be improved with Base ISO and fan indicators.
For hybrid shooters, the EOS C50 will gain support for compatible Canon Speedlite flashguns, Macro Lights, and Speedlite Transmitters via its Multi-Function Accessory Shoe. This allows users to utilize EL-series and EX-series Speedlites, potentially benefiting wedding and event photographers.
