Canon EOS R8 Mark II introduces in-body image stabilization

The Canon EOS R8 Mark II is a compact full-frame mirrorless camera designed for beginner to intermediate users. A significant upgrade over the original R8 is the addition of in-body image stabilization (IBIS), which works alongside lens stabilization to improve handheld video and static shots.

While the camera retains the 24.2 MP sensor found in the original R8 and the EOS R6 Mark II, it offers improved 4K recording capabilities, including a limit increase from two hours to six hours. The device remains portable, weighing approximately 546g, though users with larger hands may find the grip small without an optional extension.

Testing indicates that battery life remains a constraint due to the use of the compact LP-E17 battery, with recording times lasting just over an hour in specific 4K tests. The camera also features a new joystick for more intuitive autofocus control compared to previous models.
