Canonica reports data breach in Tari tax mailing error

The municipality of Canonica has reported a data breach involving the mailing of approximately 1,000 Tari tax notices to incorrect recipients. Mayor Paolo Arcari stated that the error was caused by an external company responsible for the postalization process.

A technical error resulted in the crossing of two different files, causing the contact address from one file to be associated with the tax folder of a different taxpayer. This error specifically affected physical mailings; taxpayers receiving notices electronically were not impacted.

The municipality has alerted the Privacy Guarantor regarding the incident. While many residents reported the error or discarded the incorrect documents, some citizens have raised concerns regarding the violation of sensitive fiscal and cadastral data.
