Canonical announces Ubuntu 27.04 ‘Tenacious T-Rex’ release date

Canonical has announced that the next interim release of its Ubuntu operating system, version 27.04, will be codenamed ‘Tenacious T-Rex’. The release is scheduled for April 22, 2027.

As the 46th Ubuntu build, this version marks a departure from the project’s tradition of using only living creatures as mascots by selecting a prehistoric animal. The release is expected to feature GNOME 52 and a Linux kernel in the 7.6 to 7.9 range.

As an interim release, Ubuntu 27.04 will serve as a testing ground for new desktop and AI features intended for the subsequent 28.04 Long Term Support (LTS) version. It is expected to receive support for approximately nine months, lasting until early 2028.
