Canonical websites disrupted by second DDoS attack of 2026
Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, experienced its second distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack of 2026. The attack, confirmed by the company on October 8, caused disruptions to several primary web properties for over four hours.
Affected services included ubuntu.com, canonical.com, the Ubuntu blog, the developer portal, and Ubuntu’s security advisory pages and API. Some enterprise-linked sites, such as jaas.ai and maas.io, were also impacted. However, critical developer-facing services, including Launchpad and the Snap Store, remained operational throughout the incident.
No group has claimed responsibility for this specific attack. This follows a more disruptive, cross-border DDoS attack in late April, for which a hacktivist group known as The Islamic Cyber Resistance in Iraq – 313 Team claimed responsibility. It remains unclear if the two incidents are linked.
